Gatsby Street Style: New Yorkers Celebrate the 1920s

ELLE.COM reports....

They may have happened 90 years ago, but the Roaring '20s are officially back—at least where fashion is concerned. From Ralph Lauren's Downton Abbey-inspired collection to the latest Great Gatsby film (and its many product tie-ins with brands like Tiffany & Co.), it's getting harder to resist the urge for bow lips and fringe.

Enter the Jazz Age Lawn Party, a yearly gathering on New York's Governor's Island. The eighth annual event (which happened last weekend, as well as August 17 and 18) welcomes '20s enthusiasts and features big bands, Charleston dance-offs, pie baking contests, and (this year, especially) a lot of fashion masqueraders. In between gin cocktails and rolled stockings, ELLE.com searched for the best speakeasy style—and found that although vintage is best, '90s slip dresses can also be repurposed. "Don't tell, but mine is from Free People," whispered a fashion-forward party-goer at the picnic.

She needn't worry: Much like a bootlegger's address, her secret is safe with us...
